5 Different Tools You Can Use to Create Web Sites

It's easier today to create web sites than 5 years ago. There are so many tools available at our disposal. So many in fact, that we are sure to find at least one that suits our style of working.

In this hub, I'd like to cover 5 different tools that can be used to create web sites. Which one you choose will ultimately depend on what you're after. But this hub will make you aware of the different options available to you.

1 - Visual Web Design Software

A visual (or better known as WYSIWYG) web design software is a desktop software that you can install on your computer. You can use it to create web sites without needing to know much HTML.

With a visual web design software, you design your site visually. If you want an image on the left side of the webpage, for example, you just drag the image to the left. When you're done the web design software will generate the HTML code that you need to upload to your server.

2 - HTML Editor

The second software you can use is an HTML editor. An HTML editor is another desktop software that you install onto your computer. Unlike a visual web design software, however, with an HTML editor you actually work with the actual code. Most will allow you to preview how the code will look like in a web browser but to make any changes to the web site you will have to change the source code.

An HTML editor makes it much easier by providing short cuts to HTML tags. And suggesting properties that you may want to add. The code is also color coded for easier editing.

An HTML editor is for you if you are comfortable with HTML. Or if you want to learn HTML.

3 - Text Editor

The simplest of all tools is your very own text editor. By simple I mean, it has the least features. If you are a PC user, you may be surprised to find out that you can use your ole Notepad to create web sites. Yup!

In fact, it all started with Notepad. Believe it or not, web developers started out creating web sites using a text editor.

I wouldn't recommend you use a text editor, though. If you must hand code your webpages, I suggest you use an HTML editor. The only time I'd recommend you use a text editor is when you want to test your skill in writing HTML code from scratch.

4 - Online Site Builder

The easiest way to create web sites, in my opinion, is to use an online site builder. An online site builder is a software that is hosted on the internet. You do not need to download any software.

All you need to do, is log in to the site builder, choose a design for your web site and then add your content. The site builder will deal with the HTML code. You don't even have to worry about uploading your webpages to your server. That is done automatically by the site builder.

Most good web host provides a basic site builder for you to use to create web sites. But there are many specialized site builders that you can use to create the type of web site you're interested in.

5 - Scripts

Scripts are now becoming a popular tool for creating web sites. Scripts are becoming easier and easier to. In fact, if you sign up with a Cpanel web host that offers Fantastico script installations, you can install scripts with just a few clicks of a button.

There are now hundreds of scripts that will help create different type of sites. You have scripts that will help you create ecommerce sites, blogs, image galleries, content sites ... you name it.

Scripts are a bit harder to use then the other tools but it's worth while learning how to use them because they give you the ability to create powerful dynamic and interactive web sites without learning any programming languages.

Conclusion

There you go. Those are the 5 different tools you can use to create web sites. The only way to find out which one is for you is to try them to make your own site.

Great article. I agree with you on point number 4 and have used a site builder to create several websites. I personally use http://www.createasite.com and would like to pass along the information.
